Born in Burla, Sambalpur, Orissa, Pratul Dash is counted amongst India’s finest artists
today. His works are conceptual in nature and posit pivotal questions on issues
of migration, urbanomics, failing environment and ever expanding and evolving
ecosystems. The artist’s prolific repertoire of works spans across multiple
media channels including video, performance, photography, earth art,
installation, and sculpture.
Pratul holds a Bachelor’s degree in painting from B. K. College of Arts and
Crafts in 1995 and a Master’s degree in the same from College of Art, New Delhi
in 1998. Pratul has had six major solo exhibitions; the recent ones include In
the Twilight Zone, Anant Art Gallery, New Delhi 2018 “Metropolitan Matrixâ€,
Tamarind Art Gallery, New York, 2010, “Human Spacesâ€, Sarah Khan Contemporary Art,
Switzerland, 2010 and “Proxy Originâ€, Palette Art Gallery, New Delhi, 2008. A
recipient of the prestigious Inlaks Foundation Award, Pratul persuaded further
studies in Italy. He has been part of numerous shows curated by eminent
curators in India and abroad and has also participated in a number of major art
camps and residencies. Some of his recent group participations include “Enactments and each passing dayâ€, curated
by Roobina Karode and Akansha Rastogi, Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, New Delhi,
2016 and “India: Maximum City†curated by Birgid Uccia for St. Moritz Art Maste,
Switzerland, 2014. Pratul’s works are in various collections including Kiran
Nadar Museum of Art, New Delhi, National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, National
Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi and more.
