Bhagwan Chavan is an award-winning artist who lives and works in Chennai, India. His painting style combines color harmony and depth through the placement of opaque and transparent overtones, achieved with swift, sweeping lines, spots, and streaks.
Chavan was born in 1958 in Chink hill, India, and attended Sir. J.J. School of Art, Mumbai in 1983. He has received scholarships from the Sir. J.J. School of Art in 1984 and 1985, and a research grant from Lalit Kala Akademi in 1985–86. He also received a French government scholarship from 1988–90.
Chavan currently lives in Cholamandal Artist's village, one of Asia's most successful self-sufficient artist communes. His bold, almos hit-hurried strokes and heavy splotches of color complement the white cube.
